King James just benched himself from the most fabulous runway that isn’t in Paris — the 2025 Met Gala. And plot twist? He’s an honorary co-chair this year. Yep. The man got promoted to Met Gala royalty and still RSVP’d “Nah.”
In a surprise post that probably caused Anna Wintour to spill her espresso martini, 40-year-old Los Angeles Lakers legend LeBron James broke the hearts of haute couture fans everywhere by saying, “I’m out, y’all.” Why? Because his knee is beefing with gravity again. Classic sports drama.
But don’t worry — the James throne will not go unrepresented. Queen Savannah is stepping in like the stylish MVP she is. That carpet better be ready for some serious elegance and probably more poise than LeBron doing pre-game chalk tosses.
This year’s theme? “Tailored for You.” Which is less “camp” and more “can we please get a proper hem?” The gala will spotlight the museum’s new exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion, which dives into Black Dandyism, swag, and how Black people have been fashion-forward since before TikTok existed.
As for LeBron, he shared his Met-no-go message like the poetic king he is:
“Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won’t be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on!”
He went on to shout out his real MVP:
“My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!”
Translation: Savannah’s got this. I’ll be icing my leg and watching from the royal couch throne. 🏰💅🏾✨
So while LeBron won’t be there turning heads in some gloriously tailored tux-meets-superhero-cape ensemble, we trust Savannah will bring enough royalty to the Met steps to make us all forget her husband just ghosted the fashion Oscars.
Unfortunately because of my knee injury I sustained at the end of the season I won’t be able to attend the Met Gala in NY tonight as so many people have been asking and congratulating me on! Hate to miss an historical event! My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the…
