A new Jurassic World movie is storming its way into theaters next year, but Jeff Goldblum’s fan-favorite chaos theorist, Dr. Ian Malcolm, might have finally hung up his leather jacket — and his deep, existential musings about nature finding a way. 🕶️
In a fresh interview with Total Film — for their final issue, no less, because apparently they’re riding off into the sunset too — Jeff dropped some cryptic clues about his future in the franchise. Spoiler alert: it’s not looking great for Dr. Malcolm. Or, as Goldblum would put it, “Life… uh, finds a way… out.”
Ian Malcolm: Dino Dropout?
Jeff revealed that the next film, Jurassic World: Rebirth (which, let’s be honest, sounds like a yoga retreat for velociraptors), will feature Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali as the new faces of dino-chaos. Meanwhile, Dr. Malcolm may finally get a break from delivering ominous one-liners and giving dinosaurs the side-eye.
“I think Ian Malcolm may have ridden off into the sunset. Maybe,” Jeff teased in his trademark whispery way. (Translation: Even Goldblum doesn’t know if he’s coming back — or he does, and he’s just being peak Goldblum about it.)
“This time, my friend Scarlett and my new friend Jonathan Bailey are taking over. I can’t wait to see what they do. I think that’s a good idea,” Jeff said, presumably while making complicated hand gestures and pausing dramatically for effect.
Goldblum: Jurassic Legend or Just Tired of Running from CGI T-Rexes?
Goldblum has been dodging dinosaurs for decades, starring in four of the franchise’s six films, starting with the OG Jurassic Park back in 1993. He returned in the 1997 sequel The Lost World and then again in 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, where Dr. Malcolm testified in Congress about how dinosaur parks are just… maybe not great. (A message they probably could have gotten across without resurrecting a whole T-Rex to prove the point.)
His last hurrah — or so it seems — was in 2022’s Jurassic World: Dominion, where he reunited with fellow dinosaur survivors Laura Dern and Sam Neill. “We had a blast,” Jeff said, reflecting on the good ol’ days of running from genetically-engineered murder lizards. “I was just focused on making our bit work. And hey, I think it sold a ton of tickets. But, you know… Everybody’s got an opinion. Making a good movie is hard, man.”
Jurassic World: Rebirth – New Cast, Same Dino Shenanigans
So, is Jurassic World: Rebirth the start of something bold, or just Hollywood throwing more actors into the dino blender? Only time will tell. But with Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey at the helm, things are bound to get interesting. Maybe this time, the raptors will learn Pilates. 🦕🧘
Catch Jurassic World: Rebirth stomping into theaters on July 2, 2025. And who knows? Maybe Jeff Goldblum will surprise us all with a cameo — possibly as a jazz-playing velociraptor who warns everyone, “You’re too preoccupied with whether or not you could, you didn’t stop to think if you should.”
