Why Was Justin Russo Booted From WizTech? The Unicorn Incident Finally Explained!

Buy Me A Coffee

Justin Russo (a.k.a. David Henrie’s forever boy-next-door vibe) got the boot from his fancy headmaster gig at WizTech in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place! Spoiler alert: it involves unicorns. And no, not in the cute, glittery, “awwww” way.

From the very first episode of this sequel series, we knew Justin was no longer rocking his wizard robes at WizTech. Instead, he was just another suburban dad blending in with his completely clueless human fam. No wand, no wizardry, and absolutely no vibe checks. But what dark magic got him kicked out of his magical day job? Drumroll, please…

The Episode That Spilled All the Magic Tea
Last Friday’s episode, dramatically titled “Potions Eleven!” (because obviously), gave us the tea. And honey, it is piping hot. Billie (played by Janice LeAnn Brown, who is already stealing scenes left and right) decided to take a wild ride into Justin’s mind with a potion. That’s right—she dove straight into his brain, like Inception but with more glitter. There, she uncovered the truth behind the now-infamous “Unicorn Incident” that left Justin unemployed and humiliated.

So, What Went Down?
Picture this: It’s graduation day at WizTech. Fireworks are popping, students are jazzed, and unicorns are everywhere. Sounds magical, right? Wrong. Someone (enter Alistair Goodspeed, the obvious villain with a name like that) decided to set off the fireworks too early. Cue chaos.

The band started playing, the unicorns lost their collective minds, and before you know it, a full-on stampede of horned horses was heading straight for the students. (Honestly, who let unicorns into a school setting without proper crowd control?) Justin, ever the responsible headmaster, grabbed his wand to cast a protection spell, but—plot twist!—his wand went on strike. It just flat-out refused to work.

In sauntered Alistair, playing the hero, casting the necessary spell, and earning himself major brownie points with the WizTech staff. Justin, meanwhile, got blamed for the whole debacle and was promptly shown the magical door. Ouch.

But Wait, There’s More!
Billie, being the nosy queen we didn’t know we needed, realized something about Justin’s memory didn’t add up. Like, why didn’t he remember Alistair being shady? So, she cast another spell to unlock the missing bits of his memory. And BOOM—the truth spilled out faster than a leaky cauldron. Turns out, Alistair hexed Justin’s wand to fail. Then, as if that wasn’t evil enough, Alistair hit Justin with a memory-wiping spell so he wouldn’t remember seeing it. Classic villain move.

Justice for Justin!
Now that the truth is out, we’re all waiting to see if Justin will reclaim his spot at WizTech—or at least get some well-deserved payback. (A hex on Alistair’s morning coffee, perhaps?)

Catch Wizards Beyond Waverly Place every Friday night on Disney Channel. And if you’re waiting for it to hit Disney+, well, you might need to conjure up a little patience spell.

In the meantime, someone give Justin Russo a hug. Or, like, a wand that’s tamper-proof.
