Andrew Garfield, our friendly neighborhood actor with a knack for spandex and secrets, has finally addressed the swirling rumors about his potential role in Spider-Man 4 alongside Tom Holland. Spoiler alert: It’s not what you think, unless you think it’s not happening, in which case… good guess.
Let’s recap: Andrew, the 41-year-old heartthrob who once took on the role of Peter Parker in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel, made a jaw-dropping return to the franchise in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. (Yes, that’s the one where Spider-Mans plural teamed up for a multiverse bromance extravaganza.)
Now that Tom Holland’s officially strapping on the web-shooters again for Spider-Man 4, fans are convinced Andrew’s about to swing in for another cameo. But alas, the dream may be as fragile as a spider’s silk thread.
“I’m gonna disappoint you,” Andrew confessed to GQ in an interview. “Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”
A+ for self-awareness there, Andrew! After all, this is the same guy who became a certified liar during the No Way Home press tour, where his denials about appearing in the film could have earned him an Oscar if lying were a category. (Can we start a petition for that?)
But wait, don’t rule him out of the superhero game entirely. Andrew hinted he’d be open to donning the suit again if the project felt right.
“If it felt in line with my soul and was gonna be fun. Maybe I’m gonna have like five kids at some point, and I’m gonna need to start saving up for the school tuition or something,” he joked.
No Spider-Man-ing for now, but who knows what the future holds? Five kids and a Marvel paycheck might just be the ultimate crossover event we never saw coming. Until then, we’ll just have to settle for rewatching No Way Home and analyzing every blink and breath for Easter eggs.
