Hugh Jackman is spilling the beans (and tilapia) on his superhero diet!
So, Hugh Jackman, who’s been flexing his Wolverine muscles at the spry age of 55, recently chatted with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. He revealed that to get back into shape for his role in Deadpool & Wolverine, he had to wolf down a whopping 6,000 calories a day. Yup, that’s a whole lot of food!
When Jimmy asked Hugh how he managed to get so shredded, Hugh quipped, “Oh, you eat like a bunch of steamed rocks or something. Really, what’s on the menu?” To which Hugh replied, “Well, sometimes I give those rocks a nice crispy fry.”
But don’t get too excited about those rock delicacies. Hugh clarified that his 6,000-calorie diet doesn’t exactly involve a pizza party. “Half a pizza is basically 6,000 calories,” he said. “But no, it’s chicken, tilapia, and beans. Tilapia and beans. I don’t even know why tilapia is involved. Maybe it’s the fish that’s secretly a superhero, and green beans are like its sidekicks.”
Thanks to last year’s Hollywood strikes, Hugh had to stick to this diet longer than expected. “There was this one scene where I really wanted to be in peak shape,” he recalled. “So, I told Shawn Levy, ‘Let’s save that scene for the end.’ And then the strike happened, and I was like, ‘Oh no, why did I say that?’”
In the end, Hugh concluded, “It’s worth it.” Because, apparently, nothing says “superhero” like a side of beans and a whole lot of fish!
