Elton John is proving that humor truly is the best medicine—even when it comes to his health.
The 77-year-old music legend brought some levity to the 2025 Golden Globes on Sunday night (January 5) in Los Angeles, addressing his much-publicized eyesight issues with a good-natured joke.
“I don’t know if you know, but there’s been a lot of stories going around about my recursive eyesight,” Elton quipped onstage while presenting the award for Best Original Score, Motion Picture, alongside Brandi Carlile.
“I just wanted to reassure everybody—it’s not as bad as it seems,” he added with his signature flair.
But the real laugh came moments later when Elton turned to Brandi and cheekily said, “I’m so pleased to be here with my cohost, Rihanna.” The joke sent Brandi into near-hysterics, though she managed to keep it together long enough to help present the award to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for Challengers.
Elton first opened up about his vision problems in September 2024, revealing he’d lost sight in his right eye after an illness. He elaborated further during a November interview, sharing the challenges of adapting to his condition.
In December, Elton candidly discussed his eyesight at the London opening of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, offering heartfelt words about perseverance and positivity.
Despite his struggles, Elton’s wit and resilience continue to shine—just like his music.
