Legendary icon Elton John, 77, has officially adopted a new bestie: rising pop star Chappell Roan, 27. And how does this dynamic duo keep in touch? Through the sacred art of FaceTime, of course. Forget emails, texts, or carrier pigeons—Sir Elton prefers real-time video chats to gush over Roan’s talent.
In a recent interview, Elton spilled the tea on how he first discovered Chappell’s bop, Pink Pony Club, and immediately knew she was a star.
“I heard Pink Pony Club about three years ago, and my soul ascended,” he revealed. “Next thing I knew, I was FaceTiming this magical human, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. She’s brave, she’s bold, she’s got the kind of energy that could power a small city. I mean, how could I NOT love her?”
But Sir Elton wasn’t just fangirling—he’s been handing out wisdom like a pop music Yoda.
“She’s not afraid to speak her mind, and honestly, that’s rare in this business. She doesn’t just say ‘yes’ to everything like some kind of industry robot. If something doesn’t feel right, she’s out. I respect that. I told her, ‘Listen, if you ever need advice, if the industry gets weird, or if you just wanna rant about bad catering at a gig, FaceTime me.’”
And while most of us would short-circuit if Elton John appeared on our screen, the music legend admits he’s the one in awe.
“I FaceTime her and think, ‘Wow, she’s incredible.’ Meanwhile, I’m just sitting here like an excited granddad hoping she still thinks I’m cool,” he joked.
With mentorship from one of the greatest musicians of all time, Chappell Roan is clearly on a rocket ride to stardom. And if she ever needs a pep talk? She knows exactly who to call. (Hint: It’s not Ghostbusters.)
