Donald Trump insisted he was as innocent as a kid caught with cookie crumbs on his face after being found guilty of 34 charges in his hush money trial.
On Thursday (May 30), a jury unanimously decided that the 77-year-old former president was guilty of falsifying business records after giving hush money to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. Talk about a plot twist!
Outside the New York courtroom, Donald gave his first statement to the press, calling the ruling “a disgrace” and “rigged.” Cue the dramatic music.
“This was a disgrace. This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt,” he declared, probably channeling his inner soap opera villain, via CBS. He also confirmed plans to appeal the ruling, saying, “This is long from over.” Think of it as the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers.
Donald is set to be sentenced on July 11, and could be handed up to four years in prison by the judge. Four years without Twitter? Unimaginable!
However, Trump said that the election will be the real final ruling.
“The real verdict is going to be Nov. 5 by the people, and they know what happened here and everybody knows what happened here,” he said, possibly while practicing his best courtroom drama speech.
You might be scratching your head, but yes, Donald can still run in the 2024 election, where he is the presumptive Republican nominee for president. It looks like the stage is set for a sequel, with Trump expected to face off against President Joe Biden again in November. Grab your popcorn, this is going to be one wild ride!
