The man, the myth, the multi-hyphenate mystery known as Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, has pulled the plug on the rest of his tour. Yep, you read that right—Gambino has hit the pause button on his live performances, leaving fans everywhere clutching their tickets in despair (and hopefully their refund receipts, too).
Here’s how the saga went down: Glover kicked off his tour in August, ready to bless our ears and souls with his magical, genre-bending music. But then… plot twist! Life threw him a curveball. An unexpected illness put the brakes on his month-long string of shows. It was like he pressed the snooze button on tour plans, but now, instead of just one more alarm, he’s straight-up smashing the clock.
In a heartfelt (and probably dramatic) statement, Glover explained the situation, saying, “After my show in New Orleans, I decided to take a quick detour to the hospital in Houston. You know, just a casual Tuesday, right? Turns out, the mysterious ailment I was feeling wasn’t just a case of post-show blues. After some poking, prodding, and probably too much hospital Jell-O, the docs were like, ‘Yeah, nope, you’re not performing tonight. Or tomorrow. Or, like, anytime soon.’” Classic hospital vibes.
But wait, there’s more! He’s now scheduled for surgery. (Cue the dramatic soap opera music.) He went on to say, “I need to take my recovery seriously. Like, REALLY seriously. So, with a heavy heart, we’ve decided to cancel the entire North American tour. Oh, and let’s throw in the UK and European dates for good measure. Refunds are headed your way faster than my next rap verse.”
He wrapped up his announcement with a classic “I-love-you-all-but-leave-me-alone-for-now” sentiment. He’s grateful for all the love and privacy while he heals up, and he’s dying to get back on stage when he’s ready. So, to all the fans, hang tight! Because when Childish Gambino returns, it’s going to be worth the wait. Until then, we’ll just be here playing “This Is America” on repeat and perfecting our Donald Glover dance moves.
After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent. After being assesed, it became clear i would not perform that night, and after more tests, i could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked. As of now…
