Chappell Roan just popped her late-night talk show cherry, and boy, was it a hoot!
The 26-year-old music sensation brought the house down with her charm and wit on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last Thursday (June 20) in the bustling heart of New York City.
Chappell dished on the wild inspiration behind her out-of-this-world stage outfits.
“My stylist Genesis Webb and I, we’re like fashion mad scientists! We grab bits from drag, horror flicks, burlesque, theater—you name it,” she quipped. “I love looking pretty and scary. Or, like, pretty and tacky. Or just downright not pretty. That’s cool too.”
She added, “Honestly, it’s not that deep. I love that fans read into it, but I’m just like, ‘I thought I looked hot.’ That’s all there is to it!”
During the chat, Chappell also addressed the hilarious Google search result for her name, which cheekily asks, “Did you mean: your favorite artist’s favorite artist?” This golden nugget came from her recent festival performance.
“I swear, I didn’t do that,” Chappell laughed. “It’s gotta be some random twink at Google who’s got my back. You just know there’s some assistant going, ‘Ooh, we love her.’”
And she wasn’t done spilling the tea.
“Sasha Colby said, ‘I’m your favorite drag queen’s favorite drag queen,’ and it hit me right in the feels,” she said, fangirling over the Drag Race icon. “I thought, ‘Sasha, I hope you watch me one day,’ and that’s why I dropped that line. Fingers crossed!”
