Cara Delevingne is spilling some tea that’s so hot, it’s practically boiling! The 31-year-old supermodel and actress is opening up about her sobriety journey and, boy, does she have some wild stories to share.
Picture this: It’s 2001, and a young Cara, just a wee lass of eight years old, is already testing the waters of adulthood – with a splash of booze. Yes, you read that right. In a chat with The Sunday Times, Cara reminisced about the first time she got tipsy. “You know I got drunk that day,” she revealed, adding with a chuckle, “I was eight, what a crazy age to get drunk.” Talk about starting early!
But it wasn’t all fun and games. Cara shared her past struggles with drugs and alcohol, which she thought were her ticket to coping with life. Spoiler alert: they weren’t. “I used to think drugs and alcohol helped me cope … but they didn’t, they kept me sad and super depressed,” she confessed. Cue the sad trombone. “I feel like I’ve got my power back and I’m not being controlled by other things.”
Then there’s the tale of the house fire from earlier this year. Now, most of us would be in full meltdown mode, but not our girl Cara. She credited her sobriety with keeping her cool. “It sucks but everyone was safe and, like anything, if I’d not been sober I would still be reeling over that,” she said. Seriously, is there anything she can’t handle?
And remember those paparazzi photos from Burning Man 2022? The ones where Cara looked like she’d had one too many trips to the punch bowl? They turned out to be a blessing in disguise. They nudged her towards sobriety, and she’s never looked back. “Listen, I signed up for this, this is my job, it’s what I do. But without that would I be sober now? I would have never been Sally Bowles in the West End, I’m super proud of that,” she beamed, referring to her critically acclaimed role in Cabaret.
Cara Delevingne, from boozy beginnings at age eight to sober superstar. If that’s not a Hollywood script in the making, I don’t know what is! Cheers to you, Cara – with a sparkling water, of course.
