Britney Spears, the queen of pop and all things glitter, just threw some serious shade at Halsey. Why, you ask? Well, it’s all over the music video for Halsey’s new song “Lucky,” which cheekily borrows from Britney’s classic hit of the same name.
Halsey, the 29-year-old musical magician behind “Without Me,” dropped the single like it was hot on Friday (July 26). The chorus has more Britney vibes than a 2000s-themed dance party, and the video seems to be trying on Britney’s iconic looks like a teenager raiding their mom’s closet.
Halsey claimed she had Britney’s blessing to sample the song. But, surprise surprise, Britney wasn’t feeling the love for the visual homage.
In a move that could only be described as “Pop Star Smackdown 2024,” Britney took to social media with the kind of fiery message that makes reality TV producers salivate.
“For obvious reasons I’m very upset about the Halsey video,” Britney wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter, because why not rebrand the whole bird thing?). “I feel harassed, violated, and bullied. I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I looked up to and admired would illustrate me in such an ignorant way by tailoring me as a superficial pop star with no heart or concern at all.”
Ouch! That’s got to sting more than stepping on a Lego in the middle of the night.
Britney didn’t stop there. She continued, “I have my own health problems which is why I took down my IG account yesterday. I will definitely be putting it up to show I CARE. I’m speaking with my lawyers today to see what can be done on this matter. It feels illegal and downright cruel.”
You know things are serious when the lawyers get involved. It’s like the ultimate pop star power move.
As for what exactly in the video set Britney off? That’s still a bit of a mystery, like the secret ingredient in your grandma’s famous pie. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any responses from Halsey or further updates from Britney. Because in the world of pop, the drama never really ends—it just gets a killer remix.
