When Saturday Night Live thought they were being cheeky, they accidentally poked the wrong British bear. And her famous friends were not having it.
So, here’s the tea: on the April 12 episode of SNL (yes, that show your uncle still watches religiously), they rolled out a sketch called “The White POTUS”—a parody of The White Lotus, but make it Capitol Hill chaos. Somewhere in this wild spoof, comedian Sarah Sherman strutted out pretending to be Aimee Lou Wood’s character, Chelsea, and boy oh boy did they go full caricature. We’re talking comically fake teeth and a Manchester accent so thick, it could butter toast.
Aimee—our darling of awkward British charm and the actual reason we sat through the later seasons of Sex Education—was not impressed. She clapped back, calling the parody “mean and unfunny.” Oof. That’s basically a British way of saying “I will destroy you with my wit and emotional depth.”
But don’t worry, Aimee didn’t have to fight this battle alone. Oh no. The celebrity cavalry came through like the Avengers but in Gucci.
First to enter the chat: Cara Delevingne, eyebrow goddess and chaos fairy of the fashion world. She posted to her IG story like,
“@aimeelouwood YOU ARE STUNNING PERIOD.”
No comma. No exclamation. Just period. That’s how you know she meant business.
Next up, Georgia May Jagger (yes, rock ‘n’ roll royalty), reposted Cara’s message and chimed in with a simple:
“Agreed! @aimeelouwood is gorgeous.”
Translation: “If you mess with Aimee, you mess with British fashion royalty. Choose wisely, SNL.”
But then came the real mic drop: Jameela Jamil, patron saint of calling out nonsense. She reposted an article about the sketch and unleashed a monologue that could melt AI-generated beauty standards into a puddle of silicone.
“I hate this so much,” she wrote, firing the first poetic bullet. “It’s the least interesting or memorable thing about this brilliant actor. Our next Olivia Colman. Hilarious, deep, vulnerable, and relentlessly lovable.”
Insert standing ovation here.
She didn’t stop there. Oh no. In her second Story (because Jameela is nothing if not thorough), she added:
“I also think she’s so f–king beautiful and love her face so much and wouldn’t want her to look any different.”
Honestly, we’d trust Jameela to give the State of the Union address at this point.
SNL, meanwhile, quietly slid into Aimee’s DMs (probably with a bouquet of digital flowers and a sheepish “sorry 😬”). Aimee says they apologized, but SNL hasn’t publicly addressed the sketch. Probably too busy prepping their next skit about… I don’t know, Joe Biden doing yoga?
Anyway, moral of the story:
You can try to make fun of Aimee Lou Wood, but she’s got a squad hotter than a Love Island villa, and they will shut it down faster than you can say “prosthetic teeth.”
