Will Smith and Michael Bay might just be getting the Bad Boys band back together after nearly 30 years, and I, for one, am ready for the explosions, slow-motion shots, and intense staring contests that only Bay can deliver.
According to some juicy gossip from Deadline (okay, fine, it’s technically a “report,” but that sounds way less fun), Michael Bay is practically a hop, skip, and a special effects budget away from signing on to direct Will Smith’s next big Netflix action flick Fast and Loose. You know it’s serious when negotiations reach the “final” stage – kind of like the last level of a video game, but with more paperwork and less fire-breathing dragons. Sadly.
Now, the clock isn’t ticking yet – they haven’t locked in a start date. But let’s be real, with Will Smith and Michael Bay together again, they could show up any day now with a film crew and 400 car explosions, ready to roll. Fast and Loose is shaping up to be the dynamic duo’s next project, assuming Will doesn’t drop out again like he did with Sugar Bandits. (Yes, Sugar Bandits. We’ll just pretend that was never a thing because what even is that title?!)
And speaking of Fast and Loose, this one sounds like it was ripped straight from the “How to Make an Action Movie in the Most Ridiculous Way Possible” handbook. Will’s character wakes up in Tijuana, and – surprise, surprise – he has zero memories. Classic. He starts piecing things together like a hungover detective and discovers that, wait for it… he’s been living a double life! He’s a crime boss by day and a CIA agent by… also day, I guess? The man is really out here getting two checks and still can’t remember to set an alarm. Priorities, people.
Apparently, Netflix is drooling over this project because it’s just the kind of big, loud, “more explosions, please” movie they’re trying to churn out these days. They’re also giddy about the idea of bringing back Smith and Bay – probably because the last time these two worked together on Bad Boys in 1995, it was like watching a cinematic earthquake shake the industry.
So buckle up, because if this happens, we’re in for another Will Smith action-packed extravaganza. Only this time, with more amnesia, secret lives, and hopefully a lot of slow-motion shots of Will dramatically walking away from things blowing up. Classic.
