Dear Netflix, the Heartstopper fandom is on its knees, begging for mercy (and a Season 4 renewal).
The beloved LGBTQ+ coming-of-age series, based on Alice Oseman’s wildly popular graphic novels, blessed us with its third season in October 2024. But since then? Crickets. No word from Netflix, no renewal announcement—just an eerie silence, like when you text your crush something risky and see them typing… then nothing.
Alice herself has spilled some tea in the past, revealing that Season 4 would be based on the sixth book, which she is currently still writing. That means we’re all in the same boat, waiting on both the book and the show, like a group project where the smartest kid (ahem, Alice) is the only one actually doing the work.
Producer Speaks Out: “We Are Working Hard On It”
Enter Patrick Walters, one of the show’s producers, who recently spoke at Series Mania in France and basically said, “We’re trying our best, okay?!”
According to Patrick, bringing Season 4 to life involves “a lot of moving parts,” which sounds like Hollywood-speak for “It’s complicated.” And if that wasn’t enough, he also noted that funding for the show has been like finding a matching sock in the laundry—increasingly difficult over time.
“The challenge,” Patrick explained, “is that we have to pitch something that feels fresh, relevant, and exciting while also making the big execs feel safe enough to greenlight it.” Translation: They need to make something groundbreaking… but not too groundbreaking. Because risk? Scary!
In the meantime, fans will just have to wait, meme, and pray to the Netflix gods. Let’s hope they renew it before we all start a Heartstopper-themed hunger strike.
Netflix, don’t make us suffer. We’re fragile. Do the right thing.
