The 2024 Met Gala just got a sprinkle of Grande magic, and no, we’re not talking about a supersized coffee. Ariana Grande, the pint-sized powerhouse with vocals that could shatter glass (in the best way possible), swooped into the Metropolitan Museum of Art like a glittery tornado, and boy, did she bring the party with her!
In a move that shocked more jaws than a magician at a mime convention, Ariana rolled up with her partner-in-crime, Cynthia Erivo, who, might we add, is a force to be reckoned with in her own right. It was like the Avengers of Broadway and Pop collided, and we were all here for it!
Picture this: the lights dim, the crowd hushes, and suddenly, Ariana appears, probably with enough sparkle to blind an astronaut. She didn’t just give us a concert; she gave us a musical rollercoaster ride through time and space, starting with “Once Upon a Dream” from Sleeping Beauty because, well, why not? The Costume Institute’s exhibition was all about “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” and Ariana was like, “Hold my unicorn frappe, I got this.”
Then, it was a whirlwind tour of Grande hits, from “Into You” to “7 Rings.” If you weren’t singing along, were you even there? But wait, there’s more! Ariana wasn’t content with just her own hits; she threw it back to the ’90s with “The Boy Is Mine” and “We Can’t Be Friends.” Because nothing says Met Gala like a healthy dose of nostalgia, am I right?
But just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Ariana whipped out the pièce de résistance: a duet with Cynthia Erivo of “When You Believe” from The Prince of Egypt. If you didn’t shed a tear or two during that performance, congratulations, you’re probably a robot.
And can we take a moment to appreciate the fashion? Ariana, serving looks in a Maison Margiela dress and Christian Louboutin kicks that probably cost more than our entire life savings. Meanwhile, Cynthia rocked a Thom Browne dress like she was about to strut down the runway and snatch all our wigs.
Ariana Grande at the Met Gala: the unexpected gift we didn’t know we needed. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be watching those performance videos on repeat until our neighbors file a noise complaint.
