Michael Mosley Takes His Final Bow
The beloved UK TV doctor, Michael Mosley, has left the stage at the age of 67, taking an unplanned exit that has left fans and family alike with tissues in hand. The BBC confirmed the news with a collective sigh on Sunday (June 9).
While on a vacation with his wife, Clare Bailey Mosley, Michael went for a casual stroll on the Greek island of Symi. The kind of stroll where you think, “I’ll be back in a jiffy,” but fate had other plans. Reported missing on Wednesday (June 5) after failing to return, a search party was promptly dispatched.
“Itโs devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind, and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together,โ Clare shared, via Deadline. โWeโre taking comfort in the fact that he almost made it back. He took an incredible climb, got a little creative with his route, and unfortunately, found a spot that the search team didnโt think to look in right away.โ
Michael’s four children were also there on the island, undoubtedly wondering if their dad was off making a new documentary about the secret life of Greek goats.
Clare added that the โoutpouring of loveโ from around the globe has been โhugely comforting.โ
โItโs clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you,โ she said, making everyone wish they had sent that fan mail just a bit earlier.
According to a police source, when found, Michael had been dead โfor a number of days,โ next to a fence around a 30-minute walk from the village of Pedi, where he was last seen. A bar manager with journalists stumbled upon the body, PA news agency reported (via BBC), after the islandโs mayor โnoticed somethingโ by the fence. We’re guessing the mayor’s spidey-senses were tingling.
Michael was the mastermind behind docuseries like Channel 4โs *Michael Mosley: Who Made Britain Fat* and BBCโs *Trust Me, Iโm a Doctor*. He graced BBC Oneโs *The One Show* and ITVโs *This Morning*, hosted BBC Twoโs *E-Cigarettes: Miracle or Menace?* and BBC Fourโs *Inside Porton Down: Britainโs Secret Weapons Research Facility*. If there was a health-related mystery, Michael was on the case.
In 2002, he snagged an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Non-Fiction Special (Informational) for *The Human Face*, a four-part BBC mini-series that dissected the science of beauty, facial expressions, and fame. Quite the overachiever, right?
Michael also spread his wisdom via the podcast *Just One Thing*, offering health and wellness tips, and penned several books, including *The Fast Diet* and *The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet*. Because why stop at being a TV star when you can also be a bestselling author?
Michael Mosley, youโve given us a lot to think about, a lot to laugh about, and a lot to live healthier about. Rest in peace, Doctor. May your walks in the afterlife be ever adventurous and completely search-party-free.
