Shannen Doherty is back with the latest scoop on her cancer rollercoaster, and this time it’s hitting more body parts than a hyperactive toddler in a bouncy castle.
The 52-year-old actress, who’s been battling breast cancer since 2015, seems to have turned into the Terminator of health issues. It went into remission in 2017, only to make a triumphant comeback in 2020, and now it’s playing a game of hide-and-seek throughout her entire body. Seriously, does her cancer have a passport?
In a recent chat with People magazine, Shannen spilled the beans on her bone-chilling news. Yes, you heard it right – the cancer has spread to her bones. Now, most people would be packing their bags for a pity party at this point, but not our Shannen.
With the comedic timing of a stand-up pro, Shannen declared, “I don’t want to die. I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better. I’m just not — I’m not done.” Move over, cancer, Shannen’s got a to-do list longer than a CVS receipt, and she’s not about to let a pesky disease mess with her plans.
And for those who think stage four means a one-way ticket to Retirementville, Shannen has a bone (pun intended) to pick. “People just assume that it means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work. They put you out to pasture at a very early age —‘You’re done, you’re retired,’ and we’re not,” she exclaimed. Retirement? Please, Shannen is more vibrant than a disco ball at Studio 54.
In a moment of wisdom wrapped in laughter, she added, “I know it sounds cheesy and crazy, but you’re just more aware of everything, and you feel so blessed. We’re the people who want to work the most because we’re just so grateful for every second, every hour, every day we get to be here.”
Shannen Doherty, the unstoppable force, giving cancer a run for its money, and proving that laughter really is the best medicine, even in the face of the big C.
