Selena Gomez had zero expectations of winning at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards—so much so that she was mentally planning an escape route the second her name was called.
The 32-year-old actress and the cast of Only Murders in the Building pulled off an epic win for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series on Sunday (February 23) at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
And if you thought Selena was ready for this moment, think again.
Panic Mode: Activated
When her show was announced as the winner, Selena’s face did what can only be described as a perfect “shocked Pikachu” impression. As she got up, she frantically mouthed something to her castmates, which—according to expert lip readers (aka, the internet)—was something along the lines of: “Wait… ME? No, no, someone else go. Help.”
But alas, help did not arrive.
Selena was joined on stage by Molly Shannon, Michael Cyril Creighton, Kumail Nanjiani, and Richard Kind, while her much older co-stars, Martin Short and Steve Martin, were suspiciously absent. (Perhaps napping? Watching Matlock? We may never know.)
The Acceptance Speech (AKA, Word Vomit in Real Time)
Once at the mic, Selena tried to pass the talking baton—but unfortunately, she was holding the actual trophy, so it was a no-go. “Do I have to talk?” she nervously asked her castmates, likely hoping someone would heroically swoop in and save her.
No one did.
So, she powered through: “Wait, we never win. This is so weird… Well, Marty and Steve aren’t here because, you know, they don’t really care.” (Roasted!)
After playfully throwing her elderly co-stars under the bus, she continued: “I don’t know what to say. Thank you to Marty and Steve for helping raise me.” (A true father-daughter-grandfather dynamic.)
Selena then wrapped things up before she could spiral any further: “I’m bringing this back to New York for season five. Thank you so much. I’m so grateful. Thank you, SAG-AFTRA. Thank you to everybody. I love you.”
And with that, she fled the stage—probably still in disbelief that she actually had to make a speech.
Chaos, but Make It Cute
While Selena may not have been prepared for this moment, she did manage to deliver an acceptance speech that was part adorable, part chaotic, and 100% entertaining. And honestly? That’s exactly why we love her.
