‘Sabrina The Teenage Witch’ Star Martin Mull Dead At 80

Buy Me A Coffee

Martin Mull, the maestro of mirth, the duke of deadpan, and the prince of punchlines, has taken his final bow at the age of 80. His daughter broke the news via social media, probably while dodging emojis and wondering if Instagram is an appropriate place for such announcements.

“I am heartbroken to share that my father passed away at home on June 27th, after a valiant fight against a long illness,” wrote Maggie Mull. Yes, he fought that illness like a warrior… who had an impeccable sense of humor and probably cracked a joke or two even in the thick of battle.

Continuing her heartfelt message, she added, “He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials. He would find that joke funny.” Oh, Martin, you advertising aficionado, you! Always seeing the funny side of things, even when promoting budget accommodations. “He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and—the sign of a truly exceptional person—by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously.” Dogs loved him too, probably for his comedic timing and the fact that he always had a treat in his pocket.

Martin Mull was a familiar face in our living rooms, gracing the 90s series *Sabrina the Teenage Witch* as Willard Kraft, the school administrator who couldn’t administrate his way out of a paper bag. He also brought laughter as Leon Carp, Roseanne’s sharp-tongued pal on *Roseanne*. Let’s not forget his stellar performances on *Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman* and its spinoff, *Fernwood 2 Night*. If there was a TV show that needed a dose of dry wit, Martin was your man.

As we bid farewell to this comedic genius, let’s remember him for the joy he brought, the laughs he gave, and those unforgettable Red Roof Inn commercials. We’re sending our thoughts and condolences to Martin’s loved ones during this difficult time. May his jokes continue to echo in our hearts, keeping his spirit alive and kicking—just like a well-timed punchline.
