Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera recently graced the In Conversation with the Barbie Cast event, proving that even the stars have thoughts on the potential Barbie sequel. Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie might have nixed the idea, but Ryan and America took the stage at BFI Southbank in London, and things got hilariously uncertain.
When probed about the sequel, Ryan hilariously quipped, “Oh, I’m not going anywhere near that. We really know nothing.” It seems Ryan is as clueless about a Barbie sequel as we are about advanced calculus after a year in lockdown.
Adding to the comedic chaos, America chimed in with, “We have no information. I will say, what Greta and Margot have said is they did not set out to make a franchise. They put it all out on the table. Every bit of it that they loved and that they knew to do, they did. Which is refreshing, right?” Refreshing indeed, America! Who needs a Barbie cinematic universe when you can have one epic Barbie extravaganza?
America made it clear that they’re not gearing up for two decades of Barbie movies. However, in the grand tradition of “I know nothing,” she humorously pondered, “so there might be 20 years [of Barbie]… or a Ken spinoff?” Move over Marvel, the Ken Cinematic Universe might be the next big thing!
And in a stroke of genius (or maybe delirium), Ryan had his own vision for a sequel, proposing, “Can it be a husky Ken? Can I play Husky Ken, like Sandwich Ken? Can I play that Ken next time?” Move aside, classic Ken – it’s time for the era of Sandwich Ken, the hero we never knew we needed.
While a Barbie sequel might not be in the immediate future, the stars have spoken, and they’ve left us with the tantalizing prospect of a Sandwich Ken spinoff. Hollywood, take note – the laughter is in the details, and Sandwich Ken is ready for his close-up!
