Regina Hall is back on the big screen, and this time, things are getting criminally funny—literally.
It was revealed on Friday (March 21) that the 54-year-old Girls Trip star has signed up for what might be the most chaotic courtroom showdown since that time your uncle tried to defend himself in small claims court. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’ll be joining Zac Efron and Will Ferrell in an upcoming, yet-to-be-titled comedy. (We’re hoping for Gavel & The Furious, but we digress.)
The Plot? Pure Legal Lunacy
Here’s the deal: The movie follows a freshly-released convict (played by Zac Efron, obviously), who decides the best way to handle his grievances is to take an entire reality TV courtroom hostage. And honestly? Bold move. His target? A power-hungry TV judge, played by none other than Will Ferrell, whose past ruling allegedly ruined the ex-con’s life. (Insert dramatic Law & Order sound effect here.)
Will Regina Hall be the no-nonsense lawyer? The hostage with a sarcastic streak? A surprise judge who comes in to restore order? We don’t know yet—because the filmmakers are keeping her role top secret, and frankly, we respect the suspense.
Who’s Behind This Madness?
The movie is directed by Nicholas Stoller, who also wrote the script—meaning we’re in for some seriously unhinged comedic genius. If his past work (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Neighbors) is any indication, expect a lot of inappropriate jokes, probably a shirtless Zac Efron scene, and at least one character making very poor life choices.
Regina Hall is BUSY-BUSY
If that wasn’t enough, Regina is also starring in One Battle After Another alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor—a cast so stacked it sounds like someone’s Oscar-night fever dream. The first teaser trailer just dropped, so while we wait for her courtroom comedy chaos, go watch Regina take on whatever dramatic madness that movie is serving.
Moral of the story? Regina Hall stays booked and busy, and we love that for her.
