Reese Witherspoon just put an end to some internet gossip, and honestly, we love to see it.
Recently, the 48-year-old Oscar-winning queen of book clubs and rom-coms revealed that a certain British actress had ghosted her after she playfully roasted her in a speech at an awards show. Naturally, internet detectives put on their monocles and deduced that she must have been talking about none other than Kate “Never Let Go” Winslet.
Why? Well, back in 2007, Reese did, in fact, crack some jokes about Kate at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards. The speech was spicy enough that fans started thinking, Oh no, are Reese and Kate beefing? Did their friendship sink faster than Jack in the Atlantic?
Well, Reese was not about to let the internet cook up some unnecessary drama.
On Saturday (February 1), she shut it all the way down via Instagram Story, the modern-day press conference for celebrities.
“Hey guys .. just spoke to my very dear friend for years, Kate W. We laughed about this stupidity. Please do not believe the internet. We are good friends and have never had any falling out,” Reese wrote, casually dismantling the gossip with the power of friendship and WiFi.
She wasn’t done. Oh no, she hit ‘em with a second slide:
“This is completely UNTRUE …so silly!”
Boom. Case closed. Gossip extinguished.
As for which British actress actually stopped speaking to Reese? That remains a mystery. But one thing is clear—Kate Winslet is not out here holding grudges. Now, someone go make these two do a buddy comedy ASAP.
