Pedro Pascal wants you to know something: starring in The Last of Us turned his life upside down in the best (and most chaotic) way possible.
During a press conference ahead of the highly anticipated second season of the HBO hit, the 49-year-old Emmy-nominated actor—yes, nominee, Hollywood, let’s fix that—opened up about how playing Joel Miller completely reshaped his life.
“This show was a game-changer for me. Literally,” Pedro quipped, possibly unaware of his own pun. “It created a new chapter in my life in a profound way. Like, if life were a book, this would be the part where the plot twist makes you drop your coffee.”
He continued, “The experience of making this show was so personal and meaningful. And then when it came out and people actually liked it? That’s rare! I mean, that will never happen again. No pressure, season two!”
Pedro Fanboys Over His Own Co-Star
At the event, Pedro also reminisced about the first time he met Kaitlyn Dever, who joins the cast in season two. Spoiler alert: it was a moment.
“I’ve admired Kaitlyn’s work for years. So when I found out I’d actually be acting with her, I had to do that thing where you pretend to be chill, but inside you’re screaming,” Pedro admitted.
Kaitlyn, 28, reciprocated the love, replying with a simple but meaningful, “Same.” Then, because Pedro Pascal is Pedro Pascal, he dramatically added, “You’re welcome.”
Somewhere in the universe, a thousand Pedro Pascal memes were born.
Catch season two of The Last of Us when it premieres on HBO and MAX on Sunday, April 13. Bring tissues. And maybe a stress ball.
