The Romeo & Juliet train hasn’t even left the station, and already it’s packed to the rafters! That’s right, the latest Broadway production of this iconic tragedy is generating so much hype, you’d think Taylor Swift was guest-starring as Juliet (spoiler: she’s not, but we wouldn’t be shocked if people believe it).
Even before Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler set foot on stage as star-crossed lovers, fans are losing their minds and wallets, resulting in producers extending the run for four more weeks. Now, I’m no mathematician, but that’s a solid 28 more days of “but soft, what light through yonder window breaks?” Cue dramatic swoon.
Kit Connor, who stole hearts in Heartstopper, and Rachel Zegler, who’s been singing her way through West Side Story, will both be making their Broadway debuts. Just imagine their chemistry! I mean, sure, their characters’ love ends in a double funeral, but before that? Fireworks. Literal fireworks. Okay, probably not actual fireworks because, well, fire hazards, but the emotional fireworks will be enough to have you clutching your playbill like it’s a life preserver.
Preview performances kick off September 26, with the official opening night on October 24, AKA the night where standing ovations will probably be mandatory. Originally, this Shakespearean rollercoaster was supposed to close in January 2025, but after everyone collectively lost their minds and crashed the ticket sites like it was a Beyoncé tour, producers decided to throw in a few more shows, extending the run to February 16, 2025. So, if you missed getting tickets the first time, congratulations! You now have another chance to join the fun (or tragedy, but we’re keeping it fun).
And don’t think it’s just Kit and Rachel you’ll be fangirling over. The cast also includes 13 Reasons Why’s Tommy Dorfman, who is no stranger to intense emotional drama, and the Tony-nominated Gabby Beans, who is sure to deliver a performance so good that you’ll be contemplating your life choices.
So grab your tickets, your tissues (you’re gonna need ‘em), and prepare yourself for an emotional rollercoaster with sword fights and iambic pentameter!
