Mindy Kaling is at it again! The queen of comedy, awkward romance, and workaholic characters with questionable life choices is bringing another show to Hulu. This time, it’s called Not Suitable for Work, and honestly, we’re already hooked based on the title alone.
The show just got a full series order, which is basically Hollywood’s way of saying, “Yes, Mindy, take our money, do your thing.” Oh, and did we mention this glorious news was announced on the SAME DAY she got her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? That’s what we call main character energy.
So, What’s This One About
The show follows five young, ambitious professionals in their 20s who are desperately trying to climb the career ladder while also attempting to have a personal life (LOL, good luck with that). These overworked dream-chasers are living in Manhattan’s most glamorous neighborhood—Murray Hill. (Yes, Murray Hill. The same place known for finance bros, bottomless brunches, and people named Chad who unironically say, “Let’s circle back on that.”)
Fun fact: This show was previously titled Murray Hill before getting rebranded as Not Suitable for Work, which feels like an upgrade because now we know things are about to get chaotic.
Mindy Kaling: The Ultimate Multitasker
Mindy isn’t just creating Not Suitable for Work—she’s also serving as an executive producer alongside Charlie Grandy, who will be the showrunner (a fancy TV term that means “person who has to make sure this whole thing doesn’t turn into a disaster”).
This marks Mindy’s THIRD big project with Hulu. Let’s not forget she saved The Mindy Project from TV cancellation doom by bringing it to Hulu for three extra seasons. Then she gifted us the Four Weddings and a Funeral series in 2019. Now she’s back with another comedy, proving once again that sleep is simply not on her schedule.
But Wait, There’s More!
Not only is Mindy running Hulu, but she’s also making moves at Netflix. Her next show, Running Point, drops later this month. And just when you thought she couldn’t possibly be juggling anything else, The Sex Lives of College Girls wrapped up its third season earlier this year, AND she’s co-writing Legally Blonde 3.
At this point, we’re convinced Mindy Kaling has discovered some kind of secret time-warping technology that allows her to do 400 things at once. Either that, or she just runs on iced coffee and pure ambition.
Bottom line? Mindy Kaling is giving us another hilarious show, and we will be seated.
