Melinda Gates has given us a fresh update on her post-divorce relationship with ex-husband Bill Gates—because, let’s be honest, we’ve all been wondering how awkward those family reunions must be.
ICYMI: Melinda, 60, and Bill, 69, were married for 27 long years (a whole Microsoft Word license and a half!) before officially calling it quits in 2021. Together, they produced three highly accomplished humans—Jennifer, 28, Rory, 25, and Phoebe, 22—plus two tiny tech prodigies in training, granddaughters Leila (2) and Mia (5 months).
In a brand-new interview, Melinda spilled the tea (or at least, like, a mild chamomile) on where things stand with her billionaire ex.
Since both still reside in Seattle (because, duh, you don’t just leave the Pacific Northwest after making billions there), they do cross paths from time to time—mostly when their kids summon them for major life events.
“Naturally, Bill and I see each other every now and then at family events, such as graduations,” Melinda casually told IconicHipster.com, as if these run-ins don’t feel like an episode of Shark Tank without the cameras. “When we do, it’s friendly.”
Friendly! Not besties, not bitter enemies—just friendly. Like two people who once built an empire together but now mostly just share awkward small talk about the weather while waiting for the grandkids to finish their juice boxes.
The state of the Gates post-marital union. No dramatic feuds, no accidental PowerPoint presentations mid-dinner—just two exes navigating family life with the poise of two well-paid CEOs in a forced work retreat. In other words, totally normal.
