Forget everything you thought you knew about Ryan Reynolds, the man who can make a joke out of literally anything, from chimichangas to Canadian stereotypes. According to his 83-year-old neighbor, the one and only Martha Stewart, Ryan’s off-screen vibe is…well, shockingly serious.
In a hilarious and very Martha-esque interview on Bilt Rewards’ Rent Free game show, she spilled the beans on her Hollywood neighbor, letting us know that Mr. Deadpool himself might be a bit of a dud in the humor department. “You want to know something?” Martha teased, probably giving the camera that classic I’m Martha Stewart, and I know something you don’t look. “He’s not so funny in real life. Nope. Not funny at all. He’s very serious.”
The revelation felt a bit like finding out that Snoop Dogg is secretly a mathlete or that Tom Hanks doesn’t actually love puppies. Martha, however, didn’t stop there. She leaned in, with a knowing grin: “I’m going to get in trouble. He’s my neighbor.”
But the queen of lifestyle and craftiness wasn’t totally throwing shade. She went on to acknowledge that even if Ryan is a deadpan neighbor, he still knows how to crank up the laughs where it counts: on-screen.
“He’s a good actor,” Martha declared, as if she’d just come to this groundbreaking realization. “He can act funny, but he isn’t funny. Maybe he can get to be funny again.”
So, in Martha’s view, Ryan Reynolds is a bit of a method actor—dialing up the charm for the screen and dialing it down for the neighborhood watch committee. Hey, Martha, maybe he’s just saving his best material for when you invite him over for one of those epic charcuterie spreads? Just an idea.
