Mariah Carey, undisputed queen of high notes and holiday cheer, recently spilled the beans on her magical ability to juggle the wild ride of parenting with the demands of her dazzling tour schedule.
In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, the diva, who shares a dynamic duo of 12-year-old twins with Nick Cannon, revealed her secret to this mystical balancing act, saying, “We’re going to see how I juggle those two responsibilities. It’s like trying to dance on a tightrope while singing a high note – challenging, but totally doable!”
As she reflected on her role as a mom, Carey, with a twinkle in her eye, shared her profound wisdom, “I don’t know. Just everybody has to do what their jobs are.” Well, there you have it – the key to life’s mysteries according to the elusive chanteuse.
With a nonchalant wave of her bedazzled microphone, she continued, “If their job is to go to school for three hours a day, they have to go to school for three hours a day. And if their job is also being on stage and being a part of the show, then they have that. It’s all about having a job description, darling!”
The “All I Want for Christmas Is You” sensation then revealed a snippet of her own job description, which includes the arduous tasks of resting and relaxing. “Part of my job is to rest and relax and know, ‘OK, everybody’s got this covered, and I’m going to get out there and perform.’ It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it,” she quipped, tossing her hair back like a true pop icon.
Speaking of her mini-me performers, Carey spilled the beans on the joy of witnessing her kids take the stage. “As they grow up and decide what to do with their lives, it’s really nice for me to be able to see them performing onstage. It’s like witnessing a magical unicorn dance routine – rare and utterly enchanting!”
With a glint of pride in her eyes, she shared, “I even like watching them getting ready, preparing to perform. It’s like witnessing the backstage chaos before a grand spectacle – glitter, costumes, and a touch of mayhem. Ah, the glamorous life of a showbiz family!”
Emphasizing her laid-back parenting approach, Carey clarified, “I love seeing kids stepping into this performance space, this music space, and the fact that they’re eager to do it, that’s on them, you know what I mean? I’m not forcing them to do anything. I never say, ‘You guys gotta do this,’ you know?” She then winked, adding, “I just provide the sparkly stage and let them take the spotlight – it’s all about letting them spread their wings and hit those high notes in life!”
In a grand finale befitting a diva of her caliber, Carey concluded with a flourish, “It’s whatever they want to do and they’re rehearsing for it and going for it and really working hard, so that’s impressive to me. Momma Mariah approves!” And with that, the curtain falls on another whimsical chapter in the Carey family saga, leaving us all in stitches and applause.
