Walmart just dropped a Gilmore Girls-themed holiday commercial that’s overflowing with small-town charm, caffeine, and Kirk-level awkwardness.
Lauren Graham (aka the queen of quips, Lorelai), Scott Patterson (your grumpy coffee god, Luke), and Sean Gunn (the human embodiment of “what just happened?”, Kirk) reunite in this chef’s kiss of a nostalgic ad.
The Plot: Walmart Saves Stars Hollow (Sort of)
The commercial kicks off with Kirk—because of course it does—playing delivery guy. He’s schlepping a Walmart package to Luke’s Diner, looking like a man who still hasn’t figured out how online shopping works but is very committed to the vibe.
Lorelai waltzes into the diner (probably already on her fourth cup of coffee), and instead of her usual flirt-banter-coffee routine, Luke hands her the package. Inside? A Keurig. Yes, Luke has finally given up trying to caffeinate this woman without losing his sanity or his coffee beans.
“You’re drinking me out of business,” Luke grumbles, proving once again that love is just mutual tolerance wrapped in sarcasm.
Lauren Graham Spills the Beans (Pun Fully Intended)
Talking to People, Lauren Graham called returning to Stars Hollow “surreal.” And honestly, is there any better word for reuniting with your fictional soulmate, your diner sanctuary, and, oh yeah, Mae Whitman—her Parenthood daughter—just casually hanging around with her baby? Peak Multiverse Energy.
“It was fun, weird, and a total nostalgia overload,” Lauren said. (Paraphrased, obviously. But come on, Gilmore Girls fans can smell hyperbole from a mile away.)
Where Are Luke and Lorelai Now? Probably Exactly Where You Left Them
Lauren imagines Lorelai is still running the inn—possibly a franchise by now—and swinging by Luke’s every day for coffee. Unless, of course, she’s actually using that Keurig (LOL, as if). Luke’s probably still rocking the flannel and keeping the town’s caffeine addiction under control.
“They’re exactly the same,” Lauren said, and frankly, thank all the coffee gods for that. Nobody watches Gilmore Girls for character growth—we watch for pop culture rants, small-town shenanigans, and endless cups of coffee.
Scott Patterson chimed in with his own deep insight: “They’ll get older, but they won’t change.” Translation: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Watch It Now and Thank Us Later
The commercial is basically a giant hug for anyone who misses the fast-talking, coffee-chugging chaos of Stars Hollow. Grab a cup of coffee (or ten) and enjoy the mini-reunion, because nothing says “holiday spirit” like Kirk handling packages and Lorelai roasting Luke.
In the words of Lorelai herself: “Coffee, please, and a shot of nostalgia!”
