After years of dodging reruns of “Friends” like they were unpaid parking tickets, Lisa Kudrow has decided to take the plunge and re-watch her iconic sitcom.
Previously, the 60-year-old actress, who brought the delightfully kooky Phoebe Buffay to life, avoided watching the show to spare herself the possible horror of cringing at her own performances.
However, in a recent revelation, Lisa admitted that she’s finally binge-watching the series as a way to honor her late co-star Matthew Perry.
“Honestly, watching myself on TV is like voluntarily walking into a high school reunion – too much potential for awkwardness. But if I focus on Matthew, it’s a whole different ballgame,” Lisa told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s all about celebrating his comic genius – that’s the memory I want to hold onto.”
Matthew Perry tragically passed away on October 28, 2023, due to complications from ketamine. He was 54.
As she navigates through the hilarity of Central Perk and Monica’s meticulously clean apartment, Lisa finds herself in stitches over her former castmates.
“I’m laughing out loud, and everyone is just side-splittingly funny. I mean, Courteney Cox is a riot, and Jen[nifer Aniston] – don’t even get me started,” Lisa said. “Matthew, obviously, was a comedic maestro. His timing was unparalleled. Matt LeBlanc? Total comedy gold. And David Schwimmer – who knew Ross could be so funny? Sometimes I even find myself laughing at, well, myself.”
She continued, “So yeah, my quirky little celebration involves me binge-watching ‘Friends’. But it’s a bit embarrassing. If someone catches me watching it at home, it’s like being caught red-handed in your pajamas at 3 PM. Not exactly a proud moment, wouldn’t you agree?”
