Lily Allen is here to spill the tea—on herself.
The 39-year-old singer took a trip down memory lane, revisiting her first relationship and the many “yikes” moments that came with it. Turns out, her teenage self had enough red flags to open her own car dealership.
Lily recalled her first boyfriend, a lad named Lester (yes, Lester—truly a name destined for teenage heartbreak). As soon as Lester entered the picture, Lily went into full-on “you are my everything” mode, leaving her family in the emotional dust.
“As soon as I got my first boyfriend, Lester, complete transference of intimacy,” Lily confessed on her Miss Me? podcast. “Not only did I not want to touch or be cuddled or be kissed by anyone in my family, I couldn’t engage in it with them either. It was like, this person is where I’ve put that now.”
Translation: Lester went from boyfriend to emotional landlord overnight.
“It’s incredibly like, red flag, codependent behavior that I just put all of my emotional dependency on one person,” she admitted.
We respect the self-awareness. Many people live their whole lives never realizing they treated their first boyfriend like a human security blanket.
But Lily didn’t just reflect on her own clingy past—she also touched on something a little sweeter: kissing her kids. (Cue the “aww” before we inevitably make it weird.)
Lily, who shares daughters Marnie (12) and Ethel (13) with ex Sam Cooper, revealed that her kids have very different approaches to affection.
“One of them, when I say ‘give me a kiss,’ she just puts her forehead forward for me to kiss her on the forehead,” Lily shared. Classic no-nonsense pre-teen move. Meanwhile, the other one is all about those full-on lip smooches.
“And yeah, I don’t have a problem with either. Whatever they want. Whatever they’re comfortable with,” she said.
Lily Allen: pop star, former emotional octopus, and now, a mother navigating the complex world of kid-approved kisses. Growth is beautiful.
