Lady Gaga is taking a moment to remember the legend, Tony Bennett.
The 38-year-old songbird, known for her jazzy duets with the late crooner, marked the one-year anniversary of Bennett’s departure at the grand age of 96. Alzheimer’s might have taken him from us, but not without leaving a jazz-sized hole in our hearts.
“It’s been a year since Tony sang his last note,” Gaga penned, possibly while wearing something fabulous and covered in sequins.
“This picture says it all,” she wrote, perhaps pointing to a photo where they look like they just conquered the world of jazz while sipping martinis. “I’m so grateful for my ongoing friendship with his wife, Susan, the jazzy legacy he left behind, and the community of jazz musicians I still jam with. We’re gonna keep swingin’. Miss you, Tony 🖤life is a beautiful thing 💋,” she concluded, probably with a dramatic sigh and a flourish.
Gaga didn’t stop there. During her first Jazz & Piano show in Las Vegas last year, she had Tony and Susan on her mind. One can imagine her on stage, dazzling the crowd, thinking, “What would Tony do?” before launching into another jazzy number.
And so, the beat goes on, and somewhere, Tony Bennett is probably smiling, knowing that his jazz spirit lives on in the heart of his cheek-to-cheek partner, Lady Gaga.
