Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix are ready to party like it’s a batty sequel!
The dynamic duo of weird and wonderful were spotted strutting their stuff at the UK Premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux—a fancy French way of saying “this madness now has a plus one!”—at Cineworld Leicester Square on Wednesday (September 25), in good ol’ London town.
The movie officially goes bonkers on October 4, so mark your calendars and maybe preemptively book some therapy sessions.
Gaga, forever the queen of extra, was seen snuggling up to her fiancé, Michael Polansky, on the red carpet like two lovebirds on a Valentine’s Day card. Yes, there were kisses. Yes, there were hugs. Yes, they probably made everyone around them think, “Wow, I should really up my PDA game.”
But wait! There’s more! The glam couple didn’t stop at mushy stuff. They also posed alongside Leigh Gill, who plays Gary—though one must assume he didn’t come up to Gaga’s elbow, since she was probably rocking heels higher than your GPA—and director Todd Phillips, the mastermind behind this chaotic carnival of a film.
So what’s Joker: Folie à Deux about, you ask? Oh, nothing too crazy, just Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) chilling at Arkham Asylum, trying to figure out if he’s more Joker or more sad clown with a dark sense of humor. As if that’s not enough existential crisis to unpack, he somehow manages to find love (cue the awws) and a musical groove (cue the jazz hands).
And just for the fashion police out there: Gaga and her beau weren’t just showing off their affection, they were also showing off their threads. Both were decked out in Celine by Hedi Slimane because why settle for regular clothes when you can rock haute couture? Gaga also bedazzled herself with Tiffany & Co. jewelry, because, obviously, the Joker aesthetic is “why so sparkly?”
So buckle up, world! This sequel is ready to dance, sing, and disturb you in ways you didn’t know you needed.
