Kristin Cavallari has finally unmasked the secret athlete she was recently dating, and honestly, it’s giving ESPN: The Soap Opera Edition.
On the latest episode of her Let’s Be Honest podcast (which, based on this drama, should maybe be renamed Let’s Overshare), Kristin revealed that her not-quite-boyfriend was none other than former NHL player Nate Thompson. That’s right—she went full-on Hockey Wives for a hot minute.
Now, back in December, Kristin was hyping this guy up like a Black Friday sale:
“He’s coming to stay with me in a couple of days. He retired a couple of years ago and he’s got so much depth.” (Translation: The man knows his feelings and probably doesn’t ghost.)
“I just love talking to him. We connect on so many different levels.” (Translation: He has read at least one book, and she is impressed.)
But by April 1 (and no, this wasn’t an April Fools’ joke), Kristin gave us the real lowdown:
“I really think he’s such a great guy. So that’s not one where I’m like, I don’t want anyone to know.” Which, if you read between the lines, means some of her past relationships have been classified information.
She then hit us with this romantic rollercoaster of a statement:
“This was the most honest, pure, amazing, quote-unquote relationship I’ve ever had.” Quote-unquote. Because nothing says “true love” like using air quotes.
Kristin gave the play-by-play on their connection:
– He’s a former hockey player.
– He’s been retired for a couple of years.
– He’s a dad.
– He’s done a lot of self-improvement work.
– They “connected on a deep level.”
– They “told each other f—ing everything.”
Sounds perfect, right? Well, enter the plot twist:
Kristin then admitted that while the connection was there, the fire wasn’t.
“That attraction piece for me has to be so on fire for me to want to be with someone,” she said. “Why can’t I fall in love with you?”
Ouch. Somewhere, Nate is probably clutching his Stanley Cup ring (if he has one) and staring into the abyss.
And then she really hit us with the truth bomb:
“I need in the beginning to want to rip your f–king clothes off,” she said. (A moment of silence for Nate’s self-esteem.)
“There was no ‘flame’ with Nate.”
But wait! She was attracted to him. Confused? Same.
Kristin explained, “It wasn’t like we didn’t have fun, and I was attracted to him. Like, all the pieces were there… I just didn’t wanna be in a relationship.”
She then mentioned how time was also a factor—apparently, between her kids, her career, and presumably perfecting her hot girl walks, she just didn’t have enough bandwidth for a full-time man.
“It’s f—ing complicated, alright?” she concluded. And honestly, that should be the title of her next book.
In the end, Kristin ended things before heading out on her tour. And just like that, Nate Thompson was sent back to the dating penalty box.
Will she find a man that meets her very specific criteria? Will Nate recover from this verbal body check? Will Let’s Be Honest continue to deliver this level of gossip?
Stay tuned.
