Kathy Hilton is here with an update on her sister, Kim Richards, and let’s just say, the Richards family drama continues to serve more plot twists than a daytime soap opera!
Not too long ago, reports surfaced that Kim, who’s 60 and clearly not interested in slowing down (except maybe into chaos), had a relapse with substance abuse. Things escalated to the point where she allegedly ended up on a 5150 psychiatric hold because of some rather “incoherent” behavior. Think: Real Housewives meets a live-action episode of Intervention with a dash of “Is this really happening?”
Fast forward to Kathy, 65, who was asked about Kim’s status in an interview. With the kind of coolness that can only come from years of dealing with this circus, she said, “Kim and I? No problems at all. We’ve been on the same page.” (The page probably titled: OMG What Now.) She did acknowledge that Kim’s going through a rough patch but is “doing better.” In Kardashian-speak, that translates to “There are no new headlines today, so we’re good.”
And then, we get the real tea. Apparently, law enforcement had to step in when Kim got into it with their other sister, Kyle Richards. Here’s the kicker: Kyle, 55, let Kim crash at one of her L.A. homes, which sounds generous… until things went sideways, and Kyle had to give her the boot. But this is the Richards family, so it wasn’t just, “Hey, Kim, maybe it’s time you left.” No, no. The police told Kyle she had to file an eviction notice to get Kim to hit the road. Imagine calling the cops on your sister like, “Hi, yes, I need to legally evict my sibling from my mansion. Can you help?” Absolutely bonkers.
Long-time fans of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills know that Kim has been battling substance abuse for years, and it’s no secret that her rehab stints have been part of the show’s many dramatic subplots. In fact, back in 2011, Bravo (the king of chaotic reality TV content) even swooped in and covered Kim’s rehab bill. Clearly, they’ve got a vested interest in keeping their most unpredictable star in the game.
In 2019, Kyle gave Bravo a shoutout for pretty much saving Kim’s life. In an appearance on The Jenny McCarthy Show (because of course, where else would you spill this tea?), she shared that being on Housewives forced Kim to be accountable. Kyle explained, “She says it saved her life because now there’s nowhere to hide!” Which, honestly, sounds both tragic and hilarious. Imagine just trying to sneak into a Starbucks and everyone’s like, “Aren’t you the one who Bravo had to rescue?” No hiding for Kim!
As for the current situation? Kyle’s keeping quiet. Perhaps she’s busy working on her next real estate deal or trying to figure out if there’s a “how to evict your sister” chapter in The Art of War.
Stay tuned, because when it comes to this family, the drama never truly goes away—it just takes a quick nap, then comes back louder.
