Karla Sofía Gascón is doing the classic celebrity damage control dance after some of her past tweets decided to pop back up like an embarrassing Facebook memory from 10 years ago.
The 52-year-old Oscar-nominated actress is currently in hot water—not just for a spicy comment about a fellow nominee (which she swiftly backpedaled on), but also because the internet archaeologists have dug up some of her old, questionable tweets. Because, as we all know, the internet never forgets. Ever.
In an official statement via Variety, Karla dusted off her apology skills and declared:
“I see y’all talking about my past tweets, and honestly, I get it. As someone who has personally experienced what it’s like to be part of a marginalized community, I should’ve known better. My bad! I am deeply sorry to anyone I’ve hurt. Please know, I’ve spent my life trying to make the world a better place—one that is hopefully less about digging up old tweets and more about moving forward. I truly believe light will always beat darkness… and also, that Twitter should come with a ‘Bad Take Eraser’ feature.”
So there you have it—another day, another celebrity issuing a public apology for past social media shenanigans. Will this be enough to put out the flames? Only time (and Twitter) will tell!
