Director and actor Justin Baldoni is stepping up to the plate to address the buzz about his latest movie, It Ends With Us. The film’s been hit with accusations of turning domestic violence into some kind of rom-com dreamland, and fans are less than thrilled with the movie’s penchant for floral outfits and girl-bonding chatter.
In a chat with the Associated Press, Justin took a deep breath and said, “Look, if people think we’re glamorizing domestic violence, they’re totally entitled to that opinion. I mean, who wouldn’t feel that way? Our culture has a way of turning everything into a shiny, glittery mess.”
He continued, “We live in a world where everything’s about getting eyeballs. It’s like we’re all competing in the clickbait Olympics. Look at the news—it’s a never-ending loop of sensationalism. So yeah, I get why people might think we’re crossing some line. And if you’ve been through something tough like this, I totally get why a romance novel might seem like an odd fit for your reality. But hey, we really tried to be thoughtful and respectful while making this movie.”
In other words, Justin’s saying, “We’re not trying to make domestic violence look like a cozy romance novel. We just thought flowers and female friendship would be nice accessories for a serious topic.”
