The much-anticipated film Unstoppable will be making its grand entrance in select theaters on December 6—because apparently, December is the new “motivation season.” And if you’re more of a couch potato, no worries: it’s dropping on Prime Video January 16, 2025. So, even if your New Year’s resolution is to “watch inspiring stuff and still avoid the gym,” this movie has your back.
Plot Twist: No Leg, No Problem.
Here’s the scoop: Unstoppable is all about Anthony Robles, played by Jharrel Jerome, who was born with one leg—but don’t think for a second that slowed him down. This guy gave the universe a big ol’ “LOL, watch this” and chased his wrestling dreams. With his ride-or-die mom Judy (none other than Jennifer Lopez, who apparently never sleeps), and a crew of pumped-up coaches, Anthony powers through all kinds of setbacks to earn a spot on the Arizona State Wrestling team.
Spoiler alert: Wrestling is HARD. Like, even for people with two legs. So, you know this journey is going to demand every ounce of his strength, mentally and physically. It’s a no-nonsense quest to nab the NCAA Championship title—and let’s just say, Anthony isn’t the kind of guy who takes “no” for an answer.
Director? More like “Argo Get Me Some Popcorn.”
This film is the first rodeo for director William Goldenberg, but don’t worry—this isn’t his first day at the storytelling Olympics. Goldenberg’s got an Oscar for editing Argo (remember when Ben Affleck saved the world with a fake movie?), and he’s also got nominations for The Imitation Game, Zero Dark Thirty, Seabiscuit, and The Insider. Basically, the man knows how to put a movie together.
Star Power + Wrestling Moves = You’re Welcome.
Joining Jharrel and J.Lo in this star-studded party are Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, and Don Cheadle. Fun fact: the real-life Anthony Robles also makes an appearance in the film, credited as “Anthony Robles Double”—meaning, yes, that dude is out here doing his own stunts. If that doesn’t motivate you to at least stretch in the mornings, what will? Oh, and guess what—Robles is also one of the producers because apparently, just being the inspiration wasn’t enough for him.
Training Montage Alert!
Jharrel Jerome didn’t just show up on set in sweatpants saying, “Let’s wrestle.” Nope! He trained for months alongside Anthony Robles himself. According to the studio, they worked on everything from getting Jharrel’s wrestling moves on point to channeling the ironclad determination it takes to face life head-on when the odds are stacked against you. So yeah, if you thought your 10-minute Peloton ride was an achievement… rethink that.
The Unstoppable trailer is out now—prepare to cry, cheer, and maybe attempt a push-up. Or just enjoy the movie for what it is: an epic, feel-good reminder that even when life throws a suplex at you, you’ve got what it takes to get back up.
