Hunter Schafer had the absolute pleasure of making history and handing a shiny trophy to her fellow trans queen, Nava Mau, at the 2025 Independent Spirit Awardsโbecause letโs be real, this was destiny.
The red carpet at the Santa Monica Pier was absolutely serving as Hunter and Nava, both nominees for the night, showed up looking like they stepped out of an editorial spread. Hunter, nominated for Best Lead Performance in Cuckoo, and Nava, up for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series for Baby Reindeer, had a major kiki before things got serious (as serious as an awards show held on a beach can get).
Then came the moment. The big one. Hunter, alongside singer and cool-girl extraordinaire Alana Haim, took the stage to present the award for Best Supporting Performance in a New Scripted Series. And guess what? NAVA WON!
Cue screaming, crying, throwing up (in a good way). The crowd went wild, the energy was electric, and somewhere, an angel got its wings (probably in a pair of platform heels).
Trans excellence? โ Award-winning performances? โ A friendship we absolutely need more of? โ Spirit Awards serving cinema, chaos, and charisma? โ โ โ
Your move, Oscars.
