Usher has a diet that’s anything but ordinary, and it might just make you chuckle.
The 45-year-old Grammy winner recently spilled the beans (but not on a Wednesday, of course) about his health and wellness routine to WSJ. Magazine. One of the most eyebrow-raising revelations? He skips eating on Wednesdays like it’s a plot twist in a soap opera.
“I fast, not because I’m trying to channel my inner monk, but because it’s a quirky tradition my grandmother swore by,” he explained, probably while everyone else was munching on snacks.
“I start my fasting fiesta at 11 p.m. on Tuesday and go all day Wednesday on nothing but H2O,” he said. Yes, that’s right—Usher is basically a human cactus every Wednesday.
When he’s not doing his midweek magic trick of making food disappear, Usher digs into a variety of meals. “Sometimes, I whip up some scrambled eggs with cheese. But usually, I’m a poached or over-easy kind of guy,” he revealed, probably with the finesse of a chef on a reality cooking show.
Breakfast isn’t on his agenda until he’s broken a sweat: “I can’t eat until I’ve done something to make my body feel like it’s earned it. Whether it’s a stroll, some stretching, yoga, or just pretending to be a lizard basking in the sun,” he added, proving that even superstars need to work for their toast.
“My workouts kick off with a walk or some funky knee activations and reverse walking—because why walk forward when you can walk backwards? It’s all about making my quads, knees, and glutes feel like they’re the stars of their own action movie. Swimming and bike riding? Absolutely. Weight lifting? Meh, not so much,” Usher confessed.
And if you thought that was the end of his routine, think again. He’s got more self-care secrets up his sleeve.
“I rise early enough to have a deep, philosophical chat with myself,” he said, which sounds like the beginning of a self-help book. “Some days, I grab a book to give my brain a little workout. Other times, I sit and meditate in silence, probably dreaming of the food I’m not eating on Wednesdays.”
“Yoga is my jam,” he added. “It kickstarts my organs and gets my brain in gear. As Tony Robbins would say, ‘make my move,’ because who doesn’t want to take life advice from a guy with hands the size of dinner plates?”
Usher’s health regimen is a blend of ancient wisdom, modern quirkiness, and a dash of celebrity flair. Now excuse me while I try to master the art of reverse walking without bumping into everything.
