Attention apocalypse enthusiasts and Pedro Pascal stans: The Last of Us is back to break our hearts and possibly our sanity!
During Sony’s press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show (a.k.a. Nerd Prom) on Monday (January 6), Neil Druckmann—co-creator, writer, and guy whose name screams “serious business”—announced that Season 2 of the Emmy-nominated series will hit our screens in April 2025. Yes, 2025. That’s right—just enough time to emotionally recover from Season 1, or, you know, completely forget what happened.
But wait! There’s more: A shiny new teaser trailer dropped, ensuring we have just enough emotional turmoil to carry us through the year.
What’s the Deal This Season?
The official logline says:
“Five years after the events of the first season, Joel (Pedro Pascal, still Daddy Supreme™) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey, sass queen) are navigating a world somehow even more dangerous than before. Oh, and they’re beefing with each other too. Because why not?”
Translation: Expect more fungal zombies, emotional trauma, and possibly a few moments where you scream at your TV, “WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!”
Who’s Back, Who’s New, and Who’s Definitely Crying?
Returning cast members include:
– Gabriel Luna as Tommy, the guy we all hope gets a break.
– Rutina Wesley as Maria, who still hasn’t had enough of this chaos.
Joining the party are some fresh faces:
– Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. (Yes, that Abby—prepare for discourse.)
– Isabela Merced as Dina, future queen of Ellie’s heart.
– Young Mazino as Jesse, here to make us care before things go sideways.
– Ariela Barer as Mel, because this show loves complicated relationships.
– Tati Gabrielle as Nora, who’s definitely got some tea to spill.
– Spencer Lord, Danny Ramirez, and Jeffrey Wright as a trio of characters who will probably make us cry, scream, or both.
Oh, and did someone say Catherine O’Hara? Yup, Moira Rose herself is guest starring. If she doesn’t deliver a monologue about mushrooms in a ridiculous accent, what’s the point?
When, Where, and How to Watch
Season 2 premieres in April 2025 on HBO and will stream on Max (formerly known as HBO Max, formerly known as that app you only downloaded for Game of Thrones).
So, grab your fungal face masks, stock up on emotional support snacks, and prepare for more Pedro Pascal shoulder shrugs. April 2025 can’t come soon enough!
