Harvey Weinstein is once again making headlines, but this time not for his usual reasons. Instead of his usual movie mogul antics, the 72-year-old star of the “Disgraced Producer” reality show is in the hospital, showing that even his heart can’t keep up with his drama.
On Sunday night (Sept. 8), Weinstein took a little detour from Rikers Island, where he’s been giving new meaning to “hard time,” and got himself a VIP suite at Bellevue Hospital in New York. Apparently, his ticker decided it needed some attention, so he was whisked away for emergency open-heart surgery on Monday morning. Sounds like his heart was tired of all the stress and decided to audition for the “Heart Surgery” reality show.
Weinstein’s reps told ABC News that the drama unfolded because of “chest pains,” which is a fancy way of saying his heart was giving him serious side-eye. “Mr. Weinstein was rushed to Bellevue Hospital due to a medley of medical issues,” said his reps, Craig Rothfeld and Juda Engelmayer. They added, “He had a procedure and surgery on his heart today, but we can’t give any more details. He’s got enough health problems to keep a team of doctors busy, and we’re thankful to the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island for their prompt action in getting him to Bellevue.”
To add a bit more pizzazz, Weinstein’s latest hospital stay comes just as he was supposed to grace the courtroom with his presence later this week in New York City. The prosecutors were getting ready to drop some new evidence, possibly aiming for a fresh indictment. Looks like Weinstein’s heart decided it was the perfect time to take a break from all that legal excitement.
He was actually at Bellevue earlier this summer, where he was treated for a “myriad of health conditions,” which must have been quite the buffet of ailments.
