Disney has just dropped the first full song from Moana 2 – and it’s called “Beyond”! Yes, our favorite wayfinding islander is back, and she’s bringing a whole new track that promises to tug on your heartstrings while making you want to, well, canoe your way across the Pacific.
Auli’i Cravalho’s Power Vocals? She’s Giving Us Everything and Then Some!
Auli’i Cravalho, who voices Moana, is here to remind us that her voice could probably shatter a coconut at 50 paces. She delivers the end credits version of “Beyond” like she’s ready to call forth the ocean herself. Disney, naturally, claims the song “encapsulates Moana’s fearless sense of adventure,” but let’s be honest: Auli’i’s pipes are the real star here. The songwriters Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear apparently whipped up the anthem by thinking, “What if Moana had a musical surfboard?”
Auli’i’s Take on “Beyond”: It’s Big, It’s Bold, It’s… a Call from the Ancestors?!
“This song really got to me,” Auli’i confessed, probably after a solid sniffle. “It’s about pushing your limits, leaving your comfort zone, and maybe even yelling at an ocean spirit or two. But you’re not just doing it for kicks – you’re doing it for your people.” So Moana’s out here braving new horizons while most of us hesitate over whether to try the spicier salsa at Chipotle. Heroes, right?
Barlow & Bear: Let’s Talk Ancestral Feels and Big Ocean Vibes
The musical masterminds, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, pulled no punches either. “We actually spoke to a lot of people from Oceania and the Polynesian Islands while writing,” they said. “And we learned that, for them, ancestry is everything. It’s like having your family on speed dial – but, you know, spiritually.” They wanted to capture Moana’s deep-rooted respect for her heritage, the courage to face unknown waters, and that serious sense of duty to answer the call – even when it involves terrifying ocean journeys that are way out of her comfort zone.
Director Jason Hand: Moved to Tears by Auli’i’s Performance
Director Jason Hand admitted that hearing Auli’i belt out “Beyond” pretty much made him cry like a toddler who just dropped his ice cream cone. “It was emotional,” he said, probably clutching a box of tissues. “When Auli’i sang it, we were all sobbing. We went through a lot of tissues that day.” Moana 2: Expect tissues. Lots of them.
Three Versions of “Beyond” Because Disney Knows We’ll Be Obsessed
Disney didn’t just serve up one “Beyond” – no, they’re giving us three. You’ll have the Original Version, the Reprise Version, and the End Credits Version (which is the one currently rocking our eardrums). So if you weren’t already prepared to sing along with Moana, you will be – three times over.
The Soundtrack Line-Up is Here! Plus, Moana 2 Might Sink the Competition at the Box Office
The full soundtrack list for Moana 2 is out, ready to be blasted on every speaker, car stereo, and portable shellophone around. And mark your calendars, because Moana 2 is hitting theaters on November 27th. It’s already rumored to give Inside Out 2 a run for its money, possibly even leaving Pixar sweating in their little animation booths.
So if you’re ready to dive into more Moana magic, pack your metaphorical paddles and set a course for adventure. It’s going to be legendary! 🌊
