Elizabeth Olsen has officially hung up her chaos magic, put down the hex bolts, and said, “Y’all have fun with that” to the next two Avengers movies.
The 36-year-old actress recently spilled the tea in an interview, confirming that she will not be popping up as Wanda Maximoff (aka The Scarlet Witch, aka Queen of Mind Games) in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
Why? Because Marvel fatigue is real, people.
“I Love Y’all, But Also… No Thanks”
While chatting with The Hollywood Reporter about her latest film, The Assessment (which has approximately zero Infinity Stones in it), Olsen explained her reasoning:
“I didn’t realize this until about six years ago, but because Marvel is basically everywhere—like, seriously, they’re harder to avoid than your ex’s Instagram stories—it’s really important for me to do projects that actually match my own taste,” she said.
Translation: She wants to do stuff where she doesn’t have to shoot CGI lasers out of her hands for 12 hours a day. Fair.
Elizabeth’s Era of Indie Films and Chill
Olsen went on to say that when she first started acting, she didn’t really think about “taste” in her choices. But now, she’s all about working on things that actually excite her.
Basically, she’s traded in the superhero life for artsy, thought-provoking films where she gets to act her heart out instead of pretending to fight a giant space lizard.
Look, we respect it. But also, Wanda, girl… you sure? The multiverse is messy, and nobody really stays dead.
But for now, it seems like the Scarlet Witch is poofing out of the MCU. Rest in peace to the fan theories that had her taking over Secret Wars.
