Doja Cat is NOT here for the negativity.
On Sunday night (March 2), the 29-year-old Grammy-winning rapper stepped onto the Academy Awards stage and delivered a very Doja-fied rendition of “Diamonds Are Forever” during the James Bond tribute. It was classy. It was dramatic. It was giving spy movie but make it unhinged.
But because this is the internet, some people decided to channel their inner villains and criticize her performance. And, well, Doja had thoughts.
The next day, she hopped on Instagram like a true queen of chaos and let everyone know exactly how she felt. edit
“Thanks to the Academy Awards and Vanity Fair for having me,” she wrote, probably while sipping an iced coffee and plotting her next online troll session. “I never get to sing like that, and what I did was brave and scary as f–k for me.”
Then she hit ‘em with the realness:
“I know a lot of people didn’t like it, but a lot of people did, and I feel good that I pushed myself. The song is a classic, and I put a lot of work into it, but the nerves got to me, and a b*tch hit some flats.”
In other words: Yes, some notes may have wobbled. No, she does not care.
“I can’t wait to do something like that again. What a blessing that was. I feel amazing about the whole thing. Bye. 🙏💓”
And just like that, she dipped. A mic-drop moment in the form of an Instagram caption.
Of course, her celebrity besties rushed to the comments section like supportive aunts at a talent show.
“ATE WON QUEEN HALLELUJAH,” Ashley Graham screamed (digitally, of course).
“I’m very proud of you 🥹,” wrote Raye, possibly shedding a single tear.
Moral of the story? Doja Cat did that, haters be damned. And she’ll probably do it again. With even more flats. Maybe on purpose next time. 🎤💅
