Kathy Griffin isn’t clowning around when it comes to pet adoption—she’s going all-in, fur and all!
Our favorite comedy queen is now the poster child (poster comedian?) for the latest pet adoption crusade by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). PEOPLE magazine got the inside scoop, featuring Griffin in a cozy scene at her Malibu pad, surrounded by her squad of four fabulous rescue dogs, dishing out some straight talk about why adopting pets is the cat’s pajamas.
Griffin’s message is clear: “Buying dogs from breeders? Nope, not on my watch! Even if someone swears they’re ‘responsible,’ that’s a tall tail.” She’s on a mission to tackle the shelter crisis, which she finds more terrifying than a surprise hairball on the carpet.
In the campaign poster, Griffin is snuggled up in bed with her furry friends, accompanied by the bold declaration, “This is your wake-up call to adopt, don’t shop.” She’s basically the Taylor Swift of the dog world, with pets named Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler—yes, straight out of Law & Order: SVU. Talk about having a paw-some sense of humor! She also has pups named Mary and Maggie, because why not?
Griffin, clearly the ultimate pet parent and a proud Angeleno, is serious about this cause. PETA points out that Los Angeles recently hit the brakes on dog-breeding permits since the shelters are bursting at the seams with adorable, adoptable pets. They estimate a staggering 70 million homeless cats and dogs are just sitting there, waiting for their forever homes. That’s enough to make a dog lover like Griffin howl!
“We can totally fix this mess,” Griffin says, rallying the troops. “Get your tails down to your local shelter and volunteer. These dogs need you more than you need your morning latte. And if you’ve got room in your heart and home, consider rescuing a dog. They’ll repay you with endless love and the occasional chewed-up shoe.”
Joining the ranks of other celebrity animal advocates like Lisa Ann Walter, Ron Perlman, Tom Hardy, John Stamos, and Ryan Eggold, Griffin is using her star power to shine a light on pet adoption.
