This letter—sponsored by a whole posse of Jewish advocacy groups like Stop Antisemitism, End Jew Hatred, and New Voices (the 2024 edition)—isn’t just your average Hollywood plea for world peace. The letter starts with a bang: “We are artists who want peace in the Middle East—like, actual peace, not the stuff you write on Instagram. But before we can all hold hands and sing ‘Kumbaya,’ Hamas needs to return those 101 hostages, including five Americans, who got ripped out of their lives on October 7th.” In other words, can we all agree kidnapping isn’t the vibe?
The celebs aren’t messing around. “We can’t just sit here sipping our oat milk lattes while Hamas keeps being the absolute worst,” the letter goes on. “Do whatever it takes to make them release those hostages, like, yesterday.”
This celebrity-endorsed plea drops just in time for the October 7th anniversary of the Hamas attack—an attack that tragically killed around 1,200 Israelis and foreigners and led to over 250 kidnappings. So yeah, heavy stuff.
