Pop sensation Camila Cabello is giving us the inside scoop on her superstar BFF, Taylor Swift! These two have been thick as thieves for years, and it all started when the 27-year-old “I Luv It” singer hitched a ride on Taylor’s Reputation Stadium Tour as the opening act for the 34-year-old “Clara Bow” singer.
Chatting about her shiny new album C,XOXO, Camila gushed about her transition from hardcore Swiftie to Taylor’s actual friend. Can you imagine? From fangirl to friend in a few short years—it’s like a Cinderella story but with more glitter and less mice.
“I was the f–king biggest Taylor fan. Then she became my friend a few years after,” Camila spilled to Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe. Ah, the classic tale of ‘meet your idol, be cool, don’t freak out, become besties.’
Despite rubbing elbows with music royalty, Camila confessed to feeling like a fraud sometimes. “I mean, I feel like I did have imposter syndrome for a very long time, and I do sometimes. But when you get to know people like Taylor or Drake, you realize, ‘Oh, they have the same sh-t.’” Because nothing says bonding like realizing everyone’s got their own brand of crazy.
Being around legends like Taylor, she explained, really amps up your game. “There’s something about their energy and their confidence and their wisdom from just doing it so long that I think just kind of pulls your game up. Also, when you make friends with people like that, you’re like, ‘Oh, they’re kind of watching my sh-t, so I better f–king come correct.’” Yes, Camila, we all need that level of peer pressure in our lives.
Camila also threw in a shoutout to HBO’s Girls, her ultimate comfort show. “I’m a really emotional person, but I think I also learned technique-wise, what I love, what I think constitutes great writing,” she explained. And what better way to hone those skills than by binge-watching TV with Mom?
She praised Taylor’s songwriting skills, emphasizing the art of ‘show, don’t tell.’ “Instead of just saying, ‘This devastated me,’ which Taylor is a master at this, you don’t say, ‘I was jealous.’ You say, ‘I want to wear her hair on my head,’ or something. You know what I mean? You don’t say the emotion, you paint it.” Yes, we know what you mean, Camila. And now we want to wear someone’s hair on our head, too.
Mark your calendars, because Camila’s new album C,XOXO drops THIS Friday (June 28)! It’s jam-packed with features from Drake, Lil Nas X, Playboi Carti, and City Girls’ JT and Yung Miami. So get ready to dance like nobody’s watching—or like Taylor Swift is, because let’s be real, she probably is.
