Country music’s mullet maestro, Billy Ray Cyrus, is back at it again—this time teaming up with his son Braison for a brand-new album. But wait, there’s more drama in the Cyrus family mix than on a reality TV reunion special.
Here’s the tea: On Friday (January 24), the 63-year-old “Achy Breaky Heart” legend announced that he and his son, Braison (aka the quieter Cyrus sibling), are cooking up a musical project set to drop sometime this year. It’s a father-son bonding story—minus the fishing trips and awkward hugs. But not everyone’s clapping along. Enter Trace Cyrus, Billy Ray’s other son and unofficial family spokesperson, who’s giving us major “worried oldest sibling energy” about his dad’s health.
This all follows Billy Ray’s eyebrow-raising performance at Donald Trump’s inauguration, which—surprise, surprise—sparked a Twitter firestorm. And because nothing says “family matters” like a public letter, Trace (the family’s wannabe Shakespeare) issued a heartfelt-but-lowkey-shady note. Apparently, he and his sisters—yes, those sisters: Miley, Brandi, and Noah—are a bit concerned about Dad. Think of it as a Cyrus sibling intervention without the awkward folding chairs.
“This Album? It’s Like Family Therapy but with Guitars”
Speaking to People (because why air your family drama privately?), Braison, 30, shared how this new album has been more therapeutic than his morning coffee.
“I’ve spent this past year getting to know my dad better than I ever have,” Braison said, probably over a campfire somewhere. “I’ve heard stories, jokes, and songs that I don’t think anyone else has.” Translation: Dad’s been spilling the family tea AND harmonizing about it. “It’s an opportunity to tell my dad’s story through music, and I’m fortunate to be able to take it.”
Billy Ray, of course, had his own poetic take: “This is art imitating life, imitating art,” he said, as everyone nodded along pretending they totally got that. “Braison is very talented, and ‘25 is his year. I’m glad to be a part of it. This record is gonna be special.”
In other words, buckle up, y’all. This album is set to be a mix of emotional ballads, family storytelling, and—if we’re lucky—at least one song about mullets.
Family Feuds & Wedding No-Shows
But wait, it gets juicier. Rumors of a Cyrus family feud are swirling harder than a tornado in Tennessee. Last summer, Braison and his youngest sister Noah skipped their mom Tish Cyrus’ wedding. Was it bad blood? Scheduling conflicts? Or maybe they just didn’t want to hear yet another toast about love and second chances. Whatever the reason, it added fuel to the family drama fire.
Will this new album be the glue that brings the Cyrus clan back together? Or will it just give us more cryptic Instagram posts to overanalyze? Only time—and maybe Miley’s next interview—will tell.
Stay tuned. This musical soap opera is far from over, and we’ll be here to report every note, lyric, and sibling subtweet. 🎤
